Thank you so much for your interest! We look forward to seeing you soon.
Bridging Voices is a place for EveryONE,
LGBTQ – lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer identified, straight allies, etc…,
13 to 21 years old, to make music and inspire community
Bridging Voices is a NON-AUDITION chorus – meaning everyone can participate. The youth sing an eclectic variety of music, including pop, rock, folk, classical, national anthems and of course, show tunes. At every rehearsal, a light meal is provided with time for socializing and playing a game, or two. It serves youth from Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark counties, with some youth coming from Vancouver, Camas, Gresham, Hillsboro, Banks, Milwaukie and Canby.
When: We meet most Sundays at 4:30pm at Waverly Heights UCC, 3300 SE Woodward Street in Portland (click for directions). We are not a church choir, or even affiliated with a church, but our home base, Waverly is a Welcoming Congregation. Their members and leadership were first in line to champion the creation of this chorus, and their former Music Director, Colin Frey, was our founding Artistic Director. They continue to be incredibly generous to our young organization, and we are grateful for their continued support.
Things to look forward to at rehearsal:
– Music! 4:30–5:30, warm-ups and singing
– Food! 5:30–5:50, light meal (usually pizza)
– More Singing! 6:00-7:00
– Friends! Our members are queer and allied youth from the greater Portland metro area. Odds are pretty good that you’ll meet new friends.
Don’t sing? Betcha can. 🙂 In Bridging Voices, everybody contributes their voice. As one of our members explained, “Even if you don’t know music that well, if you’ve never sung—whether by yourself or in a group—[at Bridging Voices] not only do you get to explore your queer side, but your musical side, as well. When you sing with others, you get to blend your voices together and create a harmony that you can’t do on your own.”
If you have other interests, there are opportunities to put them to use: set design, costume-making, choreography, make-up, playing a musical instrument, or providing support for performances like designing the concert programs or preparing our performance space.

Erik Gullickson says: I’m the Artistic Director at Bridging Voices (yeah, that’s me in the pic!). I am confident that if you come and check out what we’re doing with Bridging Voices, you will want to be a part of this amazing group. The youth are the core of this organization and our unique mix of performance, community, youth, and involvement is inspiring! Kids love it, adults get it, and folks are lining up to help us succeed. There are performance opportunities throughout the year and outreach performances at local charities and businesses. We also have social outings like, rollerskating, potlucks, movie nights, karaoke singing, cast parties…and maybe a new idea, from you?
So come and find out what we’re all so excited about! This group wouldn’t exist without YOU, and it’s so important to me that YOU have a voice. YOU are BRIDGING VOICES, and I’m so crazy excited about what we can do! Maybe that’s why I use so many exclamation points!!! (!!!!)
Check it out and join your voice with ours!
